Privacy Policy

WHO WE ARE

Pop & Ponder (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a casual lifestyle website dedicated to everyday curiosities, feel-good content, and thoughtful conversations. We are based in India and operate this site for readers worldwide. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website.

By using our website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our website.

WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We may collect the following types of information:

Information you give us directly — your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, comment on a post, fill out a contact form, or participate in a giveaway or poll.

Information collected automatically — your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system type and version, language settings, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs. This is standard data collected by most websites through analytics tools and advertising technologies.

Information from cookies and similar technologies — small files stored on your device that help us remember your preferences, understand how you use our site, and serve relevant advertising. More detail is in Section 4.

We collect only the minimum personal data necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to operate and improve the website, send you our newsletter and updates (only if you have opted in), respond to your messages and comments, understand which content resonates with our readers, serve relevant advertising through our third-party advertising partners, prevent spam and abuse, and comply with our legal obligations under applicable law including India’s DPDPA, the GDPR, and the CCPA.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling. We do not sell your personal data.

COOKIES

We use cookies to make your experience on Pop & Ponder better. These fall into four categories:

Essential cookies — necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take such as setting privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms.

Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors interact with our website by collecting and reporting information anonymously. We use tools such as Google Analytics for this purpose.

Advertising cookies — placed by our third-party advertising partners to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant ads on our website and elsewhere. These work by uniquely identifying your browser and device.

Preference cookies — allow the website to remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personalised features.

You can control or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. The “Help” feature in most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, disable existing cookies, and clear your browser’s cache. You can also visit allaboutcookies.org for guidance.

Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean you will stop seeing advertisements. If you opt out of personalised advertising cookies, you will still see non-personalised advertisements on the website.

OTHER THIRD PARTIES

Grow by Mediavine — a user engagement and first-party data plugin that is required in order to run Journey by Mediavine ads. Grow may collect email addresses from subscribers, engagement signals, and authenticated traffic data. You can learn more about how Grow handles your data at mediavine.com/privacy.

Email newsletter platform — such as Mailchimp or a similar service, used to manage and send our newsletters to subscribers who have opted in.

Web analytics — such as Google Analytics, used to understand traffic patterns and content performance on the website. Google Analytics may set its own cookies. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Embedded content providers — such as YouTube or Instagram. When you interact with embedded content on our site, those third parties may collect data about you. Please review their respective privacy policies.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum information required for them to function. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for their own marketing purposes — ever.

YOUR RIGHTS

For all users: You may request access to the data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of your data, and withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

For EU/EEA residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. You have the right to data portability — meaning you can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format. You have the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. You may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We rely on your consent as the legal basis for sending marketing communications, and on legitimate interests for analytics and site improvement.

For California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the purposes for which it is used, and whether it is disclosed to third parties. You have the right to request deletion of your personal information. You have the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information — and we confirm we do not sell your personal information. You also have the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. To exercise your California rights, please contact us using the details in Section – AFFILIATE LINKS AND SPONSORED CONTENT.

To exercise any of your rights, reach out to us at popandponder@gmail.com. We will respond to all requests within 30 days.

DATA RETENTION AND SECURITY

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. These include using secure connections (HTTPS) across the website and limiting access to your personal data to only those who need it to operate the site.

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law:

Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe, after which it is deleted from our mailing list within a reasonable time. Analytics data is retained in line with the default retention settings of our analytics provider. Comment data is retained for as long as the relevant post is published, unless you request deletion earlier.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use strong passwords and to be mindful of what personal information you share in public comment sections.

DATA TRANSFERS

As we use third-party service providers that may be based outside India, your data may be transferred to and processed in other countries, including the United States and countries within the European Economic Area. Where such transfers occur, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place — such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions — in accordance with applicable privacy laws including the GDPR and India’s DPDPA.

CONSENT MANAGEMENT

When you visit our website for the first time, you may be presented with a consent management banner, particularly if you are visiting from the EU/EEA or other regions with consent requirements. This is powered by Mediavine’s consent management platform, which helps us obtain, record, and manage your consent for data collection and personalised advertising.

You may update or withdraw your consent at any time by revisiting the consent settings on our website. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it.

INDIA — DIGITAL PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION ACT (DPDPA) 2023

As a website operated from India, Pop & Ponder complies with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the DPDP Rules 2025.

Under the DPDPA, you are a Data Principal and we are a Data Fiduciary. We collect and process your personal data only for the specific purposes described in this policy, with your consent where required, and in accordance with the principles of purpose limitation, data minimisation, and accuracy.

The personal data we collect includes the categories described in Section 2. Each category is tied to a specific purpose — for example, your email address is collected solely for newsletter communication if you have opted in, your IP address is collected for analytics and advertising purposes, and device information is collected by our advertising partners for interest-based ad targeting.

Under the DPDPA, you have the following rights as a Data Principal:

The right to access a summary of your personal data that we process and information about the third parties with whom it has been shared. The right to correction of inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated personal data. The right to erasure of your personal data where it is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to any legal retention obligations. The right to withdraw consent at any time, after which we will cease processing your data for that purpose without affecting prior lawful processing. The right to grievance redressal — if you raise a concern with us and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to escalate your complaint to the Data Protection Board of India. The right to nominate another person to exercise your rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at popandponder@gmail.com. We will acknowledge your request promptly and respond within a reasonable time as required under applicable law.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India. Information about the Board and the complaint process is available at the official government digital portal.

Third-party services associated with affiliate programmes may place their own cookies or tracking pixels on your device when you click through. Please review their respective privacy policies for more information on how they handle your data.

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
